International prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan arrived in Kinshasa on Monday to express concern over the recent events in Congo, especially the rise of violence in the country. "We realize that the situation is dangerous," he told journalists upon arrival. "Now it is clear: we need to guarantee respect for the law... We see, can we achieve this?"
Khan added: "We need to send a clear message: no armed group, force or its allies are allowed to act at their discretion. They must respect international humanitarian law."
The visit comes amid an escalating conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
