The combat mission of the United Nations Organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Friday that its soldiers are conducting "heavy" fighting against rebels from the M23 grouping.
According to the words of the mission representative, fierce battles are underway between UN peacekeepers and M23 fighters. It is reported that the situation remains tense, and clashes continue in the area of the town of Orueba.
"Regardless of the complexity and danger, our servicemen are ready to maintain peace and ensure the safety of the local population," the mission representative noted.
The UN is concerned about the rising violence in the region and calls on all parties to cease hostilities and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
