Matshidiso Mosiwa, representative of the United Nations Organization, stated on Tuesday that the Democratic Republic of the Congo requested assistance from the international community in dealing with the aftermath of the volcanic eruption of Nyiragongo in recent days. The situation has led to the evacuation of no less than 400,000 people, leaving them without access to crucial resources.
She noted that the country's authorities, facing a challenging economic situation, are not in a position to handle this catastrophe alone. International assistance is needed to provide support to those affected and ensure access to essential services in the closed-off areas due to the threat of more volcanic eruptions in the region of Goma.
"We are facing a serious humanitarian crisis, and we believe that international assistance is essential in this situation," emphasized Moisuswa.
