The International Criminal Court's prosecutor announced that it is closely monitoring the ongoing events in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, highlighting rising tensions and potential consequences for justice.

The International Criminal Court stated on Wednesday that it is closely monitoring the events unfolding in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ICC announced that it is "keenly following" the situation in the country, highlighting the need to safeguard respect for human rights during demonstrations and public expressions.

"We continue to monitor events, especially in Congo," said the ICC. "It is essential that all parties respect human rights and refrain from violence."

The ICC recalled that in accordance with the Rome Statute, states parties, the UN Security Council, and even the ICC itself may initiate independent investigations.
