On Saturday, the African Union called for a "sudden ceasefire" in the battles that have escalated over the past week in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly close to the homeland of the Hutu.
According to the African Union, the situation in the region remains critical, provoking a wave of refugees and endangering the lives of ordinary citizens. Notably, the conflict in eastern Congo is being fought between government forces and rebels.
"We insist on a 'sudden ceasefire' to prevent further escalation of tensions and the suffering of people in this region," the African Union stated.
